This book has an absolutely terrible, super damaging philosophy of love and sex, and I threw it in the garbage. Some of the expressions I’ve heard from my own grandmother here in America over the years! It’s been a while since I read A Catherine Cookson book and I wasn’t sure about it at the beginning because my preferred books are thrillers, but I really enjoyed it.
A fight ensues, the milk is spilt and Cissie finds herself on her back on the ground. Ill-treated by Thornton’s bitter and vindictive It might be the only book I’ve ever thrown in the garbage, and I have no regrets. I was utterly horrified when I put the book down. Clive still insists that Cissie move into the house that he has bought for her and tells her he is going back to sea, but a carriage will fetch her and Richard the following morning to take her to her new home.
She finds a barren place to live and care for her younger brothers and sisters with the help of Matthew, a local carpenter, but her life becomes complicated when the aristocratic Fischel family take an unwelcome interest. It is through Clive’s actions that Cissie’s life is shattered and she is left to bear the consequences. I recommend it to those who LOVE historical fiction and perhaps those who like dweelling having the difficulty of something like Jane Austen. Lord Fischel lives in the manor house with his son, Clive and daughter, Isabelle.

Set in Northumbria, England, the story is about Robert Bradley, a strong-willed young worker at a Jarrow shipyard, who arrives home one day tue find that his father has died. Some of CC characters are so evi THis one was very strange. Cissie Brodie’s character was endearing and as a teenager, I think a bit of her responsibility and endurance rubbed off on me. While Clive is tbe hunting the following day, he spots Isabelle riding towards the dwelling. He again declares his undying love for Cissie and appears to becoming rather obsessed with her.
I need to re-read it and experience the magic. The stars of Aquaman formed a special bond off-screen that let them push the limits of their rivalry once they were in costume.
Isabelle Fischel 3 episodes, Cissie and Clive’s love developed as a cathegine love story. Dec 31, Shirley Revill rated it it was amazing. Cissie is raped by aristocrat Clive Fischel Edward Rowie-Hicks and ends up having a child that she must fight to keep against the child’s biological grandfather, Lord Fischel James Fox.
