What do you need to use this Gazetteer? All you’ll need to play a campaign in the Nentir Vale using this Gazetteer is the Dungeon Master’s Guide, the Player’s. At one point there was supposed to be a Nentir Vale Gazetteer a pseudo ” campaign set” for the Nentir Vale that I thought was supposed to be released in like. Hopefully the Nerath wargame (which will include a big map of the Nentir Vale region, plus never seen before environs) will still come out this.

From a rules perspective alone, the Gazetteers were amazing, and gave Basic a depth that, by this point in my DMing career, I craved. I set many of my adventures in the town of Threshold, which was obviously a pretty good home gazetteed for players to adventure out of.
The Grand Duchy of Karameikos, the first GAZ I ever picked up, gave details about the world that were only hinted at in the Expert set and other adventures.
